Medium-density polyethylene, the item is produced using chromium/silica catalysts. MDPE is light but highly durable and flexible, and thus has been used extensively in the piping industry.

It is also considered safe to be used as a potable water carrier. Another advantage of MDPE is that its pipe can be used above the ground as well since it is not corrosive in nature.
